Ruby, the wiggle dancer

Dec 23

If you saw my last post, you saw what we now refer to as Ruby’s “good side”. This is her not-so-good side. For those of you not in the Tripawd community (and I’m finding out there are gazillions of tripawd pawrents out there who are blissfully deluging me with support) you’ll no doubt find this picture hard to look at. Believe me, it is hard to look at but look long enough and you’ll see Ruby who now is on a different path, taking us along with her. Repeat after me . . . leg gone, cancer gone, move on . . .

Thought I’d spend the night on the sofa, turns out I was mostly on the floor halfway into the pen we fashioned for Ruby.  She was restless and whiny I think from the anthesthesia/meds.  Think I finally got to sleep around 4:30 a.m. Good news is that we’ve taken her out several times – each trip to the back yard gets a littler easier. She’s accomplished #1 and hooray #2, had her second meal at home (there’s absolutely nothing wrong with her appetite), opened a get well gift from her neighbor, Star, a golden retriever also diagnosed with cancer – mast cell. The gift was perfect – a Christmas hedgehog, hedgehogs being Ruby’s favorite stuffed toys.

Time for Ruby and me to take a little nap . . . . zzzzzzzzzz

Thank you! She is a warrior and seems to be taking this all in stride (albiet now a hoppy stride)!

She looks good! Hooray for #2. Time for the Happy Hoppy Poop Dance.

I like your mantra – leg gone, cancer gone, move on. Ruby certainly will not look backward!

Get some rest when you can!

Thanks Jackie! We had a good night’s sleep last night. Ruby’s doing great all things considered and her people seem to have emerged from the fog that we were in for the last week…thans for the support!

Yeah Ruby!! Looks like my Lucy today. They are beautiful, the scar will be hidden once the fur grows back. I will remember, you will remember and they will be stronger. Night #2 at home was much better here than night #1 but I can’t complain, so much better than I had imagined, I hope that continues. We’re just working on getting her healthy.

    Yes, get some rest!

Thanks Mary. We too are pleased with how well Ruby is handling all of this. I think we have a lot to learn from our dogs. Best wishes for Lucy’s recovery.

Ruby, you’re beautiful! Chili Dawg’s scar was hard for me to look at when I first saw it. You won’t notice it so much, and once she’s off her meds, there will be times when you’ll swear she has her 4th leg back 🙂 Good luck to you Ruby- you’re sure a beauty!

Thank you Jenna. Ruby’s doing really good and her humans are adjusting as well. She doesn’t seem to be in pain and every trip to the backyard gets easier (especially now that she knows she gets a treat just for making the trip….she’s a lab through and through!)
