Ruby, the wiggle dancer

Dec 30

Help . . . Hoping to be sleeping in my own bed next week – need to find a doggie door solution.  The current set up has about a six” rise and about a 17″ opening.  We think Ruby would be able to hop over the rise but then wouldn’t have enough height to clear the opening.  Going to a larger doggie door means an even higher rise and we’re worried she may not be able to hop over it.  Has any one come up with a good solution?

Have you let her try the dog door? I was worried about that too. The day Roxy came home she hopped in the house, went straight to the dog door and hopped on through. I don’t know the measurements, but neither does Roxy and she didn’t seem to care. I don’t know if that helps at all….

Actually I haven’t let her try it yet – she’s 8 days post amp and mainly sleeping all day. I think perhaps I should wait until we can let her give it a try though. Thanks for getting back to us!

You’ll find lots of feedback from others facing the same dilemma, as well as some videos by searching for “doggie door” or “doggy door” in the forums. (Be sure to select All Forums and Match Phrase,) You may be surprised, the majority of dogs who already know how to use the door adapt quickly and figure out how to get through with ease. Keep us posted!

Thanks! I had done a search on the forums but didn’t select “all forums” and “match phrase”. Once I did that I found some good info especially a video . . . I’m hopefull Ruby will be able to use the door we have. Thanks again!

Dakota is big like Ruby and he has a large dog door. He has to hop up when he exits the house as there is a built-up mini-deck out there (to trap debris). So when he leaves the house, he’s actually hopping uphill probably about 6 inches. I was scratching my head over it post-amp until the third day home. Dakota went out alone when I was outside and he suddenly appeared beside me. He solved the problem by showing me there was no problem.

hmmm . . . I guess I should give her a little more credit. I’ll wait a few days or so and see what happens. Thanks for the feedback!

Ruby-Woo is a “closet athelete” and I know she’s full of surprises. Just give her a little time and a chance. We Love You, Aunty/Auntie Karen & Uncle Mike
